Nothing on Netflix? Get Focused.

Not going to lie, I get my best sewing done while show binging on Netflix or some other Internet show watching site.I most enjoy watching crime shows and sitcoms, documentaries and anything fashion related. I recently watched iris and it was EVERYTHING, but that is definitely another post for another day.

I find that although we are literally drowning in content, there have been times I have found myself dry on shows to watch, but I’m not worried and your world shouldn’t end either.

Turn it off and get focused.

There are times during my creative process where having peace and quiet is a major key. Sometimes that means music as well. You should totally try it sometime. Unplug if you don’t necessarily need to be plugged in for your craft. Take the time to reset your thoughts and organize your ideas. In my case, tuning out not only means being at one with my thoughts, but also getting them out in a timely but meaningful manner.

Distraction is the killer time.

Dear Loved Ones, No You Can’t Have a Discount

They say the best things in life are free but I’ll tell you what’s not:

My blood.

My sweat.

My tears.

My shop.

MESSAGE: People only understand the value of time and money when it directly affects them. Don’t take it personally, but do tell these freeloaders no!

discount

No, you may not get “the hookup” on my work after I’ve spent my hard-earned money to make it do what it do.

No, you may not get a percentage off just because you know me, and you damn sure can’t have anything for free unless you plan to put in some work promotionally. This was really hard for me at first but as I’m coming into my brand it’s definitely been necessary.

In the beginning, I gave out so much free stuff just looking for exposure which isn’t always a bad thing if there’s a mutual agreement (future post for sure). When I look back on how much I’ve spent and how much I’ve given away, it’s absolutely embarrassing and it’s because I was giving folks the hookup.

I’m begging you DO NOT DO IT.

Especially if you know you can afford it. If you’re reading this and you actually know me, don’t be upset.

Next time pay me.

The best support in this game is monetary.

6 Things I Enjoyed this Summer

1. The sun: Good ole fashion vitamin D is sometimes all we really need. I find myself just trying to soak up as much as I possibly can #GoodVibesOnly

2. Rita’s Water Ice: Because DUH.

3. My Bike: I recently started riding again and it feels good. I have to admit, I am not a very active person but my goal is to keep riding until it becomes a breeze again.
4. Philadelphia: I’ll always be a Jersey girl but I love Philly. There is so much to see and do this summer and I’ve been going out much more often.

5.My Family: My mom is a teacher and everyone else is out of school for the summer. I feel like we don’t normally get to spend this much time together and I intend to stay in the moment and off of social media when I’m with my loved ones.

6. My Boo: He’s absolutely beautiful; inside and out.

Sewing Kept Me Sane One Winter.

I’ve lived in a ton of places in my life, and whether it was with my family or on my own there’s always a sense of sadness that follows,

sometimes even depression.

One winter I went to live with a family friend and I just started a new job; it appeared that everything was finally coming together for me. On the outside I was fine but the inside was a different story. I was homesick and my living situation was miserable; I started to become depressed. One night I found myself binge watching Project Runway. Everyone knows I’ve been in Love with Tim Gunn and this show for years but for whatever reason I stopped watching it for a while. It was by watching at this particular time that I called my mother and asked her to bring my sewing machine with her on her next visit.

My mommy missed me so much that she gave my machine a thorough inspection (she’s the master seamstress of the family) and brought it to me right away. Getting my sewing machine back up and running saved me. I was falling fast because I felt like I had nothing to work towards. As a goal oriented person, there is nothing more disheartening than having no goals at all. Being able to start and wrap my mind around a project gave me just the right amount of motivation to keep going.

And then with just a simple stitch,

I had purpose.
